Clintonville Green Team

Growing sustainability in the Clintonville community

The Clintonville Green Team grows green practices & sustainability in our neighborhood. The committee is a forum for neighborhood projects & sustainability ideas.

Our History

The Clintonville Green Team was created as “Clintonville GreenSpot” in 2019 as a Committee of the Clintonville Area Commission. The Committee participated heavily in the City of Columbus’ GreenSpot Program, becoming a GreenSpot Neighborhood in 2020. We created and completed a neighborhood sustainability plan to become a GreenSpot Neighborhood. Columbus’ GreenSpot program, one of the best programs in Columbus, promotes sustainability throughout the city. Households, businesses, and neighborhoods can all work to become GreenSpots, and maybe even win a GreenSpotLight Award! Check out GreenSpot!

Having proven itself as an effective force for green and all that good stuff, the Clintonville Green Team was renamed in December 2024 and, thanks to an update to the CAC bylaws language regarding our committee, is now a permanent Committee of the Clintonville Area Commission. The Clintonville Green Team is a volunteer-driven community organization furthering sustainability in our neighborhood.

What We Do

The Clintonville Green Team completes a slate of AWESOME ongoing local projects, holds quarterly meetings open to the public (typically at Whetstone Library – see our calendar or socials for the next meeting!), supports the community-minded projects of other local groups, connects individuals with information, and empowers locals to make our neighborhood clean and green!

Community Events and Participation

We organize and show up to community or volunteering events, work days, local markets, festivals, civic forums, and get-togethers. We lead, we volunteer, we advise, and support. Cool projects only! Fun and friendship: Required! Columbus ArborFest is our biggest project of all.

Special Projects

Sustainability is a broad subject area covering the environment, energy, public health, civic engagement, and much more. As a committee, our projects have been diverse throughout Clintonville, nearby areas, or beyond. We pitch in on, or create, new initiatives and events small or large.

Advocating For Sustainability

We invite the community to make choices that will create a better future for our neighborhood and participate on the boards, working groups, or advisory councils of local organizations. See Resources for other great and readily available opportunities with other organizations.

Outreach

We talk to neighbors, groups, students, businesses… pretty much anyone… about what it means to be sustainable and how they can get involved.

We hope to inspire and offer our assistance to other neighborhood groups or Area Commissions that wish to start a Green Team.

Gardens and Trees

We create, maintain, and support gardens in backyards and public spaces that support local biodiversity and beautify our world. We plant trees to enhance our canopy and improve air/water quality. Fire Station 19, Brevoort Park, Beechwold Hardware Pollinator Garden, Hellstrips, Volunteering at Whetstone with Columbus Recreation and Parks Department, and more.

Cleaning Up Litter

We keep the neighborhood clean by removing trash from our public spaces. Almost anyone can help with this, at anytime! Keep it clean, keep it green.

Look for our next clean-up, or start your own by visiting the fine folks over at Keep Columbus Beautiful. KCB is the best place to start for hosting your own clean-up.

The 2025 Committee Roster also includes:

We even have fun doing it! The CAC approves the Chair and an official Roster of the more regularly involved committee members each year.
